On Thursday 8th November, party leaders at the Scottish Parliament spoke to a Motion of Remembrance.
On Sunday, 11th November 2018, as part of the national commemorations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, the names of all those who died serving on behalf of Scotland in the First World War will be projected onto the Scottish Parliament building.
The illumination – THEIR NAME LIVETH – will honour the 134,712 men and women listed in the Scottish National War Memorial Roll of Honour. Along with Scottish servicemen, the names of those projected will include nurses, munitions factory workers, Merchant Navy personnel, and overseas servicemen who fought on behalf of Scotland.
The illumination will begin at 5.00pm and continue for seven hours as the names of all those who died are projected in turn, reflecting the scale of loss. Throughout the evening there will also be performances by pipers from across Scotland and the projection will conclude at midnight with the Last Post. Prior to the start of the projection Horse Wynd will close from 3.00pm until 1.00am.
