The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change.
This seminar was recorded on 3 April 2019 is an opportunity to hear from those at the cutting edge of global climate science, to learn about their assessments of the scientific basis of climate change, its impacts and future risks, options for adaptation and mitigation, and the direct implications for policy.
Our speakers, Youba Sokona, IPCC Vice-Chair; Thelma Krug, IPCC Vice-Chair; and Jim Skea, IPCC Working Group III Co-Chair were taking time out from a high-level meeting in Edinburgh of the IPCC Working Group III on climate change mitigation.
This seminar was hosted by Gillian Martin MSP, Convener of the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee.

Scotland's Futures Forum continues its spring 2019 programme of events with a discussion this evening on the idea of a citizen’s income, featuring new research and an expert perspective from Finland.
With predictions of social and economic upheaval brought about by technological and environmental change, could a citizen’s income reduce poverty and increase people’s control over their lives? Using new research from Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt Universities and a view from the Finnish basic income experiment, this event looked at whether citizen’s income is a realistic and affordable solution for the future.

On Thursday 8th November, party leaders at the Scottish Parliament spoke to a Motion of Remembrance.
On Sunday, 11th November 2018, as part of the national commemorations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, the names of all those who died serving on behalf of Scotland in the First World War will be projected onto the Scottish Parliament building.
The illumination – THEIR NAME LIVETH – will honour the 134,712 men and women listed in the Scottish National War Memorial Roll of Honour. Along with Scottish servicemen, the names of those projected will include nurses, munitions factory workers, Merchant Navy personnel, and overseas servicemen who fought on behalf of Scotland.
The illumination will begin at 5.00pm and continue for seven hours as the names of all those who died are projected in turn, reflecting the scale of loss. Throughout the evening there will also be performances by pipers from across Scotland and the projection will conclude at midnight with the Last Post. Prior to the start of the projection Horse Wynd will close from 3.00pm until 1.00am.
