The World Economic Forum predicted that the gender pay gap will end – but not till 2095. Join panellists Melanie Reid, The Times; Emma Ritch, Engender; Suki Wan MSYP, Chair, Scottish Youth Parliament; and Professor Lesley Yellowlees, Professor of Inorganic electrochemistry, University of Edinburgh and Royal Society of Edinburgh Fellow, to discuss their personal experiences of gender equality from work/life balance to equal pay; relationships and social norms, and how we close that gap sooner.

Following our Festival of Politics event about LGBT personnel in the military we asked Jamie Greene MSP, as chair, to talk us through the the discussion - as well as speak to us more generally about LGBT+ issues in Scotland and about his work as founder and co-chair of the Scottish Parliament's LGBT+ cross-party group. 

 

 

Through 20 years of working at the Children’s Parliament, Cathy was uniquely placed to report on how children view Scotland. Generally, children feel that Scotland is doing well in how it delivers services to children, with most children reporting that they feel loved and cared for, while many are also excited by Scotland’s landscape and history. However, the picture is more complex for many of the children the Children’s Parliament work with.

At the launch of Scotland’s Futures Forum’s Scotland 2030 Programme, singer, songwriter and essayist Karine Polwart tells three imagined news stories from 2030, musing on the effect of automation on human dignity, how the tension between a desire for solitude and the need to stay connected digitally might play out in a country like Scotland, and the power relationships between people as data generators and companies as data analysts in a world where our lives are increasingly defined by 'datafication'.

The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP, answered questions from MSPs in The Scottish Parliament on the 4th of October 2018. 

John P. Mackintosh is widely recognised as one of the most influential political figures of his generation. A highly respected academic, gifted orator and prolific writer, he served from 1966 to 1978 as Labour MP for Berwick and East Lothian and was Professor of Politics at the University of Edinburgh.

This wide ranging discussion, led by a panel of leading figures from political and academic life, considered Mackintosh’s legacy examined some of the contemporary issues and challenges facing democracy today.

The event was held in the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament, and was chaired by the Rt Hon Ken Macintosh MSP, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament.
